Location
The Self-Organization in Biology: Freiburg Spemann-Mangold Centennial Symposium will take place in Freiburg, Germany, at the authentic sites of Spemann and Mangold’s work.
The main conference site will be the historic Aula of the University of Freiburg, originally built just a few years before Spemann arrived in Freiburg, now a modern lecture hall on the inside.

The museum of the university has original exhibits of the Spemann laboratory on display, and the site of the building in which Hilde Mangold did her famous experiments is just a short walk away from the symposium site.

Freiburg is on the ICE/IC train route: Frankfurt – Karlsruhe – Freiburg – Basel. Leave train at Freiburg Main Station (“Hauptbahnhof”, only Freiburg stop of ICE/IC trains).

There is a train connection at Frankfurt Flughafen (train station directly at airport) to Freiburg Hbf, each hour, approx. 2:45 hours to Freiburg. The trains are every hour with one change of train in Mannheim.

Airport Zurich
Take a local train (Train Station Zurich Kloten) to Zurich Hbf (Main train station). From Freiburg main train station to symposium venue
The symposium venue Kollegiengebäude KGI opens in new tab/window is only 10 minutes walking distance from Freiburg Main Train Station (Freiburg Hauptbahnhof).
When you leave the main entrance (east) of the train station, cross the street at traffic light (leave Courtyard Marriott Hotel at your left).
Walk 500m straight on Eisenbahnstrasse until you cross the tram tracks at Rotteckring.
Turn right at Rotteckring and after 300m you will see the University Kollegiengebäude I (historic building in red sandstone) on the left.

Yes, accessible parking can be found at the “Parkgarage Universität Kollegiengebäude I”.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Yes, however only in Kollegiengeäude III is an elevator suitable for wheelchairs. Both buildings are connected over a floor. Please contact the janitors for assistance (tel. +49 761 203 4420). Are there accessible elevators close to the conference rooms?
